  14. The Kidcon邃｢ OS Icon Collection

  16. Introduction:
  17. Fast on the heels of the popular Kidcon icon collection comes the Kidcon OS set. These icons fill in the missing pieces for any user, child or adult, that wants to customize their mac in the Kidcon appearance. The set provides a number of folders for different aspects of your computer, all designed the the bold, striking lines and colors of Kidcons. As a bonus, we've provided two versions of the Kidcon Kaleidoscope scheme, Kidkal, to complete the make over.

The enclosed folder contains over 55 custom Kidcon icons and two KAL schemes to customize your Mac. This fun and playful set was drawn by hand utilizing bold lines and striking colors to bring out the kid in everyone. There are Kidcon replacements for many of the standard folder types like "Applications" "Utilities" or "Games" in addition to missing system level icons like the "Generic Application" icon. Whether your eight or eighty, we're sure you'll enjoy the Kidcon OS Icon Collection as long as you're young at heart!

The enclosed icons are copyrightﾂｩ1998 The Iconfactory. The icons are original artwork from the author and can be used free of charge by any individual person without a licensing fee. These icons can only be distributed as freeware. If you choose to redistribute Kidcons邃｢, you may not charge fees or request compensation OF ANY KIND and the read-me file must accompany the set at all times. By downloading this file you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this agreement.

  31. How To make Use of Kidcons as Mac Icons:
  32. 1. You need system 7 or higher.
  33. 2. Do a "Get Info" (File menu) on the original Kidcon icon file that you want to use.
  34. 3. Click on the icon in the window; choose "Copy" (Edit menu).
  35. 4. Close the window, then "Get Info" on destination file/disk.
  36. 5. Click on the icon, choose "Paste" (Edit menu).
  37. 6. Don't forget to e-mail us and let us know what you think!

  39. How To make Use of the Kidkal KAL scheme:
  40. 1. You'll need to download the latest verison of Kaleidoscope.
  41.             The application can be found on the web at: <http://www.kaleidoscope.net/>
  42. 2. If you would like to use Kidkal without replacement icons, then drag the Kidkal lite
  43.         version into the KAL scheme folder in your system folder.
  44. 3. Launch Kaleidoscope and select the Kidkal scheme to activate it.
  45. 4. If you want Kidkal to replace your system icons, then simply use the original Kidkal 1.0
  46.          file instead. NOTE: System level icons do not get replaced correctly 
  47.         under Mac OS 8! This isn't my fault so please don't write to tell me so.

  51. On replacing the trash icon:
  52. Many people ask us how to go about replacing their Mac's trash icon with a custom one such as those that come with this set. There are several ways to go about replacing the trash icon, but we don't recommend messing around with system resources unless you are fairly versed with ResEdit. If you're not sure you want to mess with the guts of your Mac's system files then may we recommend a program called Zonkers! from Nova Development. Zonkers provides users with a safe, fast and easy way to customize ALL system level icons with the click of a mouse. If you'd like to learn more about Zonkers! for the Mac and all the neat things it can do then head for: <http://www.novadevcorp.com> I've found however that with the latest upgrade to Mac OS 8, Zonkers has little or no affect on the trash (or any other system level icon). If you're running Mac OS 8 then Zonkers won't help in this area.
